Chris Pine Talks About Once Upon A Time in Hollywood

Quentin Tarantino had included the family history of actor Chris Pine in his last Oscar-nominated film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.  Pine responded gleefully by saying that his mother was “ecstatic” when she heard that her family history had been included in Tarantino’s latest film.

The genius director of Pulp Fiction had once appeared on The Ringer’s podcast and expressed his love for actor Chris Pine by calling him “hands down my favorite” actor. The love Tarantino has for Pine stems from his admiration for his family.

One of the finest directors of the 21st century is a fan of Anne Gwynne, a well-adulated actress of the 1940s who had worked in dozens of films such as “Men of Texas,” “Ride ‘Em Cowboy,” “Black Friday,” and “House of Frankenstein.”

The actor Chris Pine happily said on J. Claud Deering’s podcast that he has a great relationship with his mother, and he has been to Academy Awards “a couple of times” with her where they had great fun. He also said that he and his mother did bump into Tarantino once at a Vanity fair where she and the director talked for about 40 minutes. Pine was astonished by the knowledge that Tarantino possesses about his grandmother.

Apparently, he knew the name of everyone that was involved in the films of Anne Gwynne.

Tarantino paid tribute to Anne Gwynne when he shot a scene in his tenth feature film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” at Spahn Ranch, where the group of characters surrounded a TV set that was playing Gwynne’s movie. Pine admitted that though he loved the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he failed to notice Tarantino’s tribute to her in the first viewing.

He revealed on Deering’s podcast that when he called his friends over and initiated the film’s topic, his mother remarked about that scene involving Gwynne’s film.

“The television was playing one of my mother’s film.” His mother told him. He said that his mother laughed jubilantly after that.

Pine admired Tarantino for putting that scene in the story. “It’s sweet of him.” He said and assumed that “It must have been done on purpose.”

His mother, Gwynne Gilford, then wrote an email as a word of thanks and told Pine to forward it to the director.

There was a time when there was speculation that Chris Pine and Tarantino can work in an R-Rated Star Trek spin-off film. Chris Pine is well part of the franchise in which he plays Captain Kirk. Tarantino has recently revealed that he indeed wrote a story which is a crossover between a 1930s gangster film and that famous franchise.

However, Tarantino turned down all the hope of the fans and said that the probability is really low that he directs such a film.

Quentin Tarantino has written and directed ten films so far that include Reservoir Dogs, 1994 film Pulp Fiction, both volumes of Kill Bill, Django Unchained, Inglourious Basterds, Hateful Eight and 2019 release Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Picture category alongside Joker, Irishman, Little Woman, Parasite, Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit, Ford V Ferrari. The Parasite had won the award.

Chris Pine is now gearing for the October release of Wonder Woman in which he will reprise his role as Steve Trevor, the love interest of Gal Gadot character Diana Prince.
