It would not be wrong to tell you that now indeed you can stream your favourite shows on Roku by just speaking to your Google assistant. Yes, now you can control your Roku device with your Google assistant.

Now Roku device users with OS 8.1`or above can access to their favorite movies or Hulu by just giving a voice command to their Google assistant, on any Google device like Google Home Mini, Google Hub or a Google Home. You just have to give a command like Ok Google show me drama or Launch Hulu and voila its done, no need of remotes rather your voice is turned into a remote. It is somewhat similar to Alexa and Amazon prime, but here you can also use your mobile handset to connect which becomes quite flexible for the user.

Controlling Roku with Google Assistant

Before initializing, just make sure that you got the latest version on your Roku device or above 8.1, or you first need to upgrade your Roku device before anything else. To update your Roku Device Follow these simple steps.

  1. Open “Settings” on your Roku device.
  2. Choose “System” from the setting options.
  3. And then, select “System Update.”
  4. From here you can select “Update” to update to the latest version.

After doing this, you can now connect your Roku device to the Google Assistant. For iOS users, they have to use “Google Assistant app” through which they can connect to the Roku device. Android users can directly use the Home app to connect their handsets. To connect your device follows these steps

  1. Open “Home app.”
  2. Choose the “Add” Button.
  3. Then, go to “Set up device” it will redirect you to the “Set Up” page.
  4. Choose “Have Something Already Set Up” From the “Set up” page.
  5. Now, select “Roku” from the list.
  6. Then, log into your “Roku” account.
  7. Finally, choose the Device location (if you have various Roku device).

And now you have paired both the devices, so now you can command your Google Assistant by saying “Okay Google” and operate your Roku. You can say “Okay Google launch Hulu or Okay Google Launch Netflix” or simple commands like “Okay Google Pause” or “Okay Google volume up” which would make your TV watching experience fun and modern.
