Whoopi Goldberg has requested to build a Black Panther Wakanda for Disney theme parks to honor Chadwick Boseman. The statement came some days after the news of the tragic death of Boseman. Marvel fans know that Wakanda is a hidden country in Africa with advanced weapons and technologies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Boseman recently passed away after a four year battle with colon cancer. The actor gained popularity by his fantastic performance in movies like 42 and Get on Up and made a worldwide recognition for his work as T’Challa in Black Panther and some other Marvel movies. The Black Panther collected a gross of $1.3 billion worldwide. The film was praised for bringing diversity in the Marvel Universe and celebrating Black culture and tackling the theme of the race. Black Panther is one of the top 20 highest-grossing movies of all time to date, which has never been achieved by predominantly black films. After Boseman’s death, many have found their way to honor him, and Goldberg has pitched the idea of Wakanda’s theme to Disney.

Goldberg tweeted on Twitter requesting to build a Wakanda experience in both Disneyland and Disney World. The big step will not only give tribute to Boseman but also will provide a significance of Black Panther in Black communities. Whoopi’s original tweet was, “Dear people in charge of building new experiences Disney World and Disneyland, we do not need another Frozen land, but we could use it for Wakonda, please build in Chadwick Boseman’s name Wakonda.”

In her tweet, she mentioned that Disney Parks could do well without another Frozen land. Disney has made progress in diversity in recent years for decades, but the company has mostly focused on white characters. They did not have any black princess till Princess and the Frog came out in 2009. Black Panther is one of the limited films that depicted the black community. So bringing Wakanda to Disney Parks would be an appreciated step.

Goldberg’s statement followed the opening of Disney Parks around the world. Creating the world of Black Panther and Wakanda would be an exciting idea imagining the visually stunning landscapes in the film. Disney is continuously losing $20 million day by day due to the coronavirus, and they will probably hesitate to build a massive expansion to one of the parks. Although Marvel fans would love to explore Wakanda’s world and it will be a great way to honor Boseman.
