Steps to clean the engine bay

Let the engine bay cool for some time

The first and foremost step for cleaning the engine’s bay is that you let the engine cool down for at least an hour. Leave the hood open for sometime before you start the process.

Cover the parts

You have to protect the engine components so that it doesn’t get damaged while cleaning. Take the plastic wrap and cover the batteries, alternator, distributor, and carburetor. You can also cover the fuse box and the coil packs if required.

Clean the dirt with the water-hose

Once you cover all the engine parts, you need to take the water hose and gently remove the dust from the car. Spraying water with the hose allows the engine degreaser to work more efficiently.

Add the engine degreaser

Using the engine degreaser is much better than using a regular soap as it cuts through the oil. Take a brush and apply it on the areas such as oil pan and starter. Let it sit for some time so that it effectively removes all the grease.

Rinse the engine bay

Use the water hose pipe and gently wash the engine bay. Make sure that you do not apply too much pressure. If you find that the grease and dust are still left, then you must repeat the process.

Clean the engine bay with soap

Take a bucket full of water and add soap into it. Use a car wash mitt and apply the soap solution to the engine parts. Once the engine degreaser has cleaned the grease, you now need to clean the dust.

Rinse with water and remove the plastic wraps

You have to again rinse the engine bay with water. Once you are through, you can remove the plastic wraps from the parts that you were protecting.

Polish the plastic and metal parts

Take the plastic and metal cleaner and apply it to the engine parts using a terry cloth. Remove the excess stuff with the help of a microfibre towel. Doing so helps to remove all the small scratches from the surface.

Dry the surface

Last but not least, you can take a leaf blower to remove extra water from the engine bay. Once done, turn on the car’s AC to run the compressor. Let it stay on for about five minutes so that all the components are dry

Apply engine dressing

You can take a spray-on engine dressing and apply it on the engine bay to make it look as good as new.

We know that the process of cleaning the engine bay can be quite difficult, as you must take a lot of precautions.
