Harissa Spice

A veritable flavour bomb, steering the simplest of dishes into adventurous new territory and exotic taste sensations, Harissa is a North African spice blend originating from the Mediterranean ports of Tunisia and treasured by cooks from Israel to Morocco to Southern Europe.

A distinctive and aromatic alternative to more conventional hot sauces, Harissa is characterised by its grainy consistency and deeply complex flavour profile with the upfront punch of red chilli, black pepper, paprika and cumin, a slightly smoky finish and fragrant notes of caraway, cinnamon and ginger.

Harissa is traditionally employed as a fiery, vibrant orange marinade for flame-grilled meat and seafood kebabs or mixed with olive oil and lemon juice to use as a condiment or dip for bread and fresh vegetables.

Spice Zen’s roasted and stoneground Harissa blend will bring soups and stews to life and spice up roasted vegetables, couscous and rice. Combine it with diced tomatoes or yoghurt to add fresh, cutting flavour to authentic kebabs or gourmet wraps. Harissa Spice

Make a handy Harissa paste by mixing an equal amount of Spice Zen Harissa Blend with boiling water. Stir in dollops of olive oil until you achieve a paste-like consistency and store in the refrigerator for up to a month.
