How to Celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day in the Office

6Random Acts of Kindness Day is on February 17th—what do you have planned? Kindness makes the world go ‘round, and it’s the random acts of kindness that can mean the most. Even something small like holding the door for someone or complimenting them on how they ran a meeting can mean a lot. Although random acts of kindness shouldn’t be designated to just one day out of the year, now that you know that it’s an official holiday, you have no reason not to participate. Here are a few fun and easy ways to celebrate around the office.

Compliment a Good Parker

Parking can be hard. At least some people make it seem that way, so whenever we see someone fit into a tight spot like it was made for their car, it’s worth celebrating. You’ll often hear of people leaving nasty notes for bad parkers, but never does anyone leave a kind one. Do that instead, and bonus points if they parallel parked too!

Give a Random, Practical Gift

The holiday season might be over, but who says there’s only one season for gift-giving? Everyone loves getting a random gift, so on this day, gift something to a coworker that they can really use. There are tons of options out there, from funny coffee mugs to colorful desk sets and more. Whether you get the whole office donuts or just single out a colleague who could use a little pick-me-up, spread kindness through gifts.

Unload the Office Dishwasher

Ah, the office dishwasher. It’s a blessing when it’s empty, but when you see it’s full in the morning, you might put off that morning oatmeal for fear you’d be stuck emptying it. How about you be the person that does it today? It takes a couple of minutes, which allows you time to refocus and step away from your desk, plus you’ll be the hero of the office for the day.

Host a Coloring Break

Coloring is good for the mind. You don’t need to read a dense science study to know that sitting down to color between tasks is relaxing and can help give our brains a break before doing actual, real work. You’re not the only one who feels that way in your office, so why not host a mini coloring sesh in the break room over lunch? Pack your cute pencil pouch with all of the necessities, break out a couple of coloring books and go to town!

Take a Coworker Out to Lunch

Who doesn’t love free food? Buying someone lunch is one of the nicest things you can do around the office. It also gives you an excuse to skip the normal lunch in a pail and try something new. Pick whoever you want—your best bud, cubicle mate, or maybe someone you’d like to get to know better. Shoot them a message and spend the lunch hour socializing.
