How to select tiles for your home

Tiles are a durable, versatile, and long-lasting flooring option.

There are various types of tiles: natural stone, ceramic, porcelain, slate, glass, cement, marble and mosaics. Before you select your tiles, we recommend that you follow a few simple steps to ensure you make the right choice. Here’s a few tips:

#1 Tile colour:
Tile colour is one of the most important things to consider before making your decision. If you’re working with a smaller sized space, we’d recommend choosing white/plain tiles in order to create a bright and spacious look. By contrast, if you want to add a bit more depth and focus to your room, we’d recommend using darker tiles in your room.

#2 Size of room:
The size of your room being tiled is another important factor to consider before choosing a tile. If you have a small space then we advise choosing a large-format tile – since the fewer grout lines will make your room look and feel bigger than it actually is.

#3 Tile purpose:
The purpose of the tiles that are being used is another important factor to consider – largely because certain tiles are not manufactured for use on floors, e.g. ceramic tiles. As a result, if you are looking to create a continuous look with matching floor and wall tiles, we’d recommend using porcelain tiles for ease of use.
