Is it Safe to Drink RO Water?

Many homes trust an RO Water Purifier in order to keep their families and loved ones safe with potable and healthy drinking water. However, not everyone has made peace with RO purifiers. It is most often questioned if RO water is harmful to health. When choosing a purifier online, you can tend to worry about the authenticity of the product.

What is RO Water?

RO stands for Reverse Osmosis. It benefits your health in a number of ways. It is a technique of water purification which works in contrast to osmosis. Impure water passes through a semipermeable membrane made of Thin Film Composite that traps large harmful contaminants like lead, mercury, and sediment, leaving behind only clean and purified water.

What worries the consumer is that if an RO system traps all the chemicals and contaminants, it also depletes the water of nutrients?

Common myths, whether Reverse Osmosis is safe to drink or not:

Along with all its benefits, water from reverse osmosis is not perfect. There are some major drawbacks which can be a source of negativity: it is purified. Generally, water contains hundreds of nutrients; some of them are also bound to be good for you. In fact, water also contains healthy amounts of essential nutrients. This also leads many into believing that reverse osmosis is not safe to drink or very least inadequate.

Myth no. 1: Reverse osmosis is not safe because it has no nutrients.

This is completely wrong. Yes, RO water doesn’t have any essential nutrients you need, but neither does a normal water tap. The amount of this nutrient is very small. On the other hand, the contaminants are much more numerous. The missed nutrients can be made up for in your diet or from supplements.

Myth no. 2: RO water is too acidic to drink.

Another reason that leads people to believe that RO water is not safe is that many claim that it is acidic and can lead to many stomach problems. Normal water has a Ph level of seven which is neutral. When reverse osmosis removes some impurities, the Ph level can drop below seven making it acidic. Since water is more pure, it wants to grab more CO2 from the air, which makes it more acidic.

There is nothing to worry, it is because the Ph level sill return to normal when it comes in contact with food in the stomach. Generally, the Ph level will drop around 5.5 which is far less acidic than the acids in your stomach.

Myth no. 3: They are scientifically altered.

Reverse osmosis is not common in everyday life. It leads many people into thinking that the water has been treated in some way or another and has been modified as an unsafe process. The truth is RO is a simple filtration process like any other purifying system that you have ever come across.

RO uses a film membrane and high pressure in order to push the water through. Water molecules are small enough in order to pass through the membrane contaminants are not. Once the water passes through the filtration system, the only thing left is pure water and nothing else.

Benefits of drinking a RO Water

There are several benefits of an RO purifier. However, there is a dilemma, “Is RO water good?”

There are many benefits of RO water, but here are a few points that you must know:

  1. a)     Contaminant-Free:

The RO system also ensures that every kind of impurity is eliminated from water; you will have access only to the safest and cleanest drinking water. These chemicals can also prove to be fatal in the long run, so it takes utmost care and ensures that the RO Water Purifier is working well.

  1. b)     Reduce sodium from soft-water:

Most of the RO water purifiers are also enabled with a water softener, removing hard minerals from the water. Though it is excellent for cooking, cleaning, and other activities, the hard minerals are replaced with sodium molecules that can add an odd taste to the water. An RO purification system will also help reduce this sodium content and cater to your water requirement.

  1. c)     It taste better:

When you buy an RO purifier or copper RO water purifier, all the harmful chemicals retain only the essential nutrients.
