James Cameron’s Avatar World is Arriving Soon with Back to Back Sequels

The magical world of Pandora will return to the big screen more than a decade after its colossal success at the box office.

James Cameron does not rush into things and is sometimes way too slow. Anyway, he has some good news which he has revealed recently. Apparently, principal photography work of Avatar 2 has been concluded and if all goes well the sequel to the 2009 film will arrive in theaters in 2022 (after 13 years).

Cameron had one more positive news and said that shooting of Avatar 3 is also expected to be over very soon. Hence, we can expect the 3rd part to arrive not later than two years after the release of the second film. Fans are thankful as they would not like another 13 years of wait.

CinemaBlend has reported an interview of Cameron with actor Arnold Schwarzenegger at Austrian World Summit 2020 in which he has revealed that the shooting of the second part is 100% complete while the third part is 95 percent done.

He gave a brief update in his conversation with Schwarzenegger and said that he is currently in New Zealand finishing the shooting of the climax of Avatar 3. He dropped a bombshell by saying that the shooting of the second part has already been concluded. He said that they would commence the post-production of Avatar 3 the moment the second part gets released.

Like all upcoming films, Avatar 2 was also hit with a delay after the coronavirus pandemic created havoc around the world. They have now returned to New Zealand and are finishing the footage for part 2 and 3 simultaneously. The shooting is taking place at the same location at which the first film was shot.

There have already been few plot leaks about the sequel which has revealed that in the second film, the primary focus will be on Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully and his relationship with Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri. The plot leaks have suggested that the couple has been forced out of their home, and they will roam around Pandora exploring new and interesting places.

There have been reports which have suggested that Cameron’s cinematic brilliance will be shown with the scenes of the couple around and inside the waters of Pandora.

In January of this year, Cameron had revealed some stunning conceptual art which might give some hints of how the world of Pandora in the second film would look like.

The first film which was released in 2009 dealt with humans aspiring to retrieve unobtanium from an exo-planet called Pandora in the Alpha Centauri A system. The greed of humans resulted in a war between them and the humanoid inhabitants called Na’vi ended in a heavy defeat of humans. The human survivors were then forced to leave Pandora with the exception of Jake Sully who we know had survived in the final seconds of the film.

Cameron’s love for the flourishing ecosystem and his hatred for humans’ greed against it was clearly seen in the film.

Cameron had written the 80-page treatment of the film way back in ’95, but he had to wait up until the technological advancement was to the point where he could shoot the scenes in a way that he had envisioned. This didn’t happen for a long time, and the film was delayed for several years before it ultimately hit the screens in 2009, 12 years after the release of International hit Titanic.

James Cameron broke his own record with Avatar as the film overtook Titanic to become the highest-grossing film ever in the history of cinema. The world record was not broken for nine years up until the arrival of 2018 release Avengers: Infinity War.

The 2009 Avatar film starred Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will reprise their roles of Jake Sully and Neytiri. Weaver’s character had died in the 1st film, but Cameron has left a door open for her, and had said in one of his interviews that “nobody really dies in a science fiction film.”

There are a total of five films currently planned in the franchise and Cameron has assured that the upcoming four sequels will be released in short intervals.

Several sources close to the film’s production team have suggested that there will be some scenes in the film that will be mind-boggling in a way that nothing like that has ever been seen before and they would push the boundaries of cinematic achievement similar to what the first film had done during its run.
