Kieron Pollard Reveals the Reason of Rohit Sharma’s Absence

Kings XI Punjab secured a nail-biting victory over Mumbai Indians in the second super over of their last encounter and after the defeat, captain Rohit Sharma didn’t attend the post-match presentation. Vice-captain of the team, Kieron Pollard attended it revealed the reason of Rohit’s absence.

“I was told that he’s (Rohit) not feeling well, that’s why I’m here to chat with you guys. We’ll see what happens but he’s a fighter,” said Pollard.

The swashbuckling batsman also praised Jasprit Bumrah, citing that he is a “world-class cricketer” and he has been doing a great job in the absence of Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, who has pulled out his name from the 2020 edition of Indian Premier League due to “personal reasons”. Notably, Bumrah has taken 15 wickets in nine matches so far in the league.

“He’s (Bumrah) a world-class cricketer. He has been number one in a couple of formats for a long period of time. He has learned and has gone leaps and bounds for us at Mumbai Indians in a run of while and so,” Pollard shared at the post-match press conference. “We have comfort in him. A couple of years ago, we had a fit and fair Lasith Malinga and he (Bumrah) has taken over that mantle now and so.”

Meanwhile, The match between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Mumbai Indians (MI) witnessed two back-to-back Super Overs. In the first Super Over, Bumrah’s stunning spell helped him giving away only five runs. However, it was Mohammad Shami who restricted Mumbai Indians within five runs and took the game to the second super over where KXIP ended up winning the game, courtesy Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal.

“We will look back and analyse the game and we will come up with a better plan and hopefully get two points in the next game,” added Pollard.

Mumbai Indians are placed at second in the points table now, after Delhi Capitals and will take on Chennai Super Kings in their next match on Friday (October 23).
