Kris Srikkanth Reveals the Similarity between Virat Kohli and Kapil Dev’s Captaincy

Former India player Kris Srikkanth has said that Virat Kohli and Kapil Dev’s approach to the game are similar. He said that both have the same aggression as they wear their hearts on their sleeves and always go for the win. While Virat Kohli is the current captain of India Kapil Dev led India to its first World Cup win in 1983.

On the show named Cricket Connected – ‘Aattam Thodarum’ on Star Sports 1 Tamil, Srikkanth alongside Laxman Sivaramakrishnan and host Bhavna Balakrishnan discussed how the World Cup win inspired the entire generation to take up the sport as a profession as well. Kapil Dev scored an unbeaten 175 against Zimbabwe which was one the best individual ODI knocks at that time.

Srikkanth said: “At that time, they were saying our odds of winning were 1 in 1000. But Kapil Dev was the main man behind that win. The guy has got a tremendous amount of confidence, self-belief and positive approach.”

After Kapil Dev led India to its first-ever ICC Cricket World Cup win way back in 1983, it was Mahendra Singh Dhoni who led India successfully to the 2011 world Cup triumph. However, before him, it was Sourav Ganguly who made a strong team that reached the World Cup final for the first time in 2003 after 1983.

While speaking about former India captain Sourav Ganguly, Kris Srikkanth said: “Ganguly was proactive. He was the guy who was able to form the team combination. Like how in 1976 Clive Lloyd formed the winning combination (for the West Indies team), Sourav put the correct team together and then inspired them. That’s why Ganguly was a successful captain, even in abroad conditions. They started winning abroad. Ganguly is a born leader.”
