Usually, students are often confused between the two and contemplate about MBA or PGDM which has more value. To help you with that below lies a few points that will clear your head.

1) Decoding the Terminology

The primary purpose of both the courses is to train you for managerial and leadership positions, although there are quite a few technical differences. The most prominent amongst these are the formal names of each. MBA is short for Master of Business Administration- It is basically a post-graduate degree.  On the other hand, PGDM, which stands for Post Graduate Diploma in Management, is, in fact, a diploma degree.

2) Affiliation and Accreditation

As we know, MBA is a degree and can only be offered by universities and institutes that are affiliated and has their curriculum accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Whereas when talking about autonomous bodies like IIMs are not authorized to offer a degree. On the other hand, postgraduate courses in Management is recognized as a diploma and is regulated by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)

3) Academic Differences

The most important factor that you need to keep in mind before jumping into any conclusion is the academic difference. Keeping the mentioned above points in mind, you know that both the courses aim to train you in management and administration, but their approach towards education differs significantly. When talking about an MBA, it tends to focus more on the theoretical side, whereas PGDM focuses on the technical aspect which helps provide aspirants exposure to real-life business solutions.

However, a PGDM is very different when you compare it with one year PGP offered by many private institutes all across India. Another major perk that comes along with PGDM is, as it is being provided by autonomous institutes, the curriculum can be easily upgraded more frequently to include the new changes and trends in business management.
