Mixing Alcohol and Generic Bactrim 800mg

Generic Bactrim is a commonly prescribed antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections like those which occur in the ear, urinary tract, and respiratory system. It is also known as sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim/ SMZ-TMP.

Side Effects of Mixing Alcohol and Generic Bactrim

The human body uses specific enzymes to break down alcoholic substances into something that can be easily eliminated out of the body. Several by-products are created through this complex process and one of the byproducts is a toxic substance i.e. acetaldehyde.

Use of Generic Bactrim with alcohol may prevent the enzyme that is responsible for breaking down acetaldehyde from functioning, accumulating the toxic substance in the body. This interaction can lead to many side effects, including:

• Flushing

• Headaches

• Rapid heart rate

• Nausea and vomiting

• Difficulty breathing

These effects may occur within 5- 15 minutes after consumption of alcohol.

There are some other important factors to remember about alcohol and the use of Generic Bactrim.

1. It is not recommended to drink alcohol while taking Bactrim.

2. The combination of Generic Bactrim and alcohol specifically can cause severe side effects.

3. If you are on the dosage of antibiotics and plan to have alcohol, be sure to inform your doctor.

4. If you are about to finish up a course of Bactrim, wait for a week before consuming alcohol.
As discussed above, antibiotics and alcohol can cause similar side effects, such as stomach upset, dizziness and drowsiness. Combining Generic Bactrim and alcohol can increase these side effects.

A few antibiotics should not be mixed with alcohol since this may result in a more serious reaction. Drinking any amount of alcohol with these medications can lead to side effects.

Also, the antibiotic Generic Bactrim interacts with certain alcoholic beverages, for instance, red wine as well as tap beer. Drinking these beverages and this medication together can cause a hazardous increase in blood pressure.

Remember that some mouthwashes and cold medicines also contain alcohol. So check the label and avoid such products while taking these antibiotics. Although modest alcohol use doesn’t reduce the effectiveness of most antibiotics, it can decrease your energy and delay how quickly you recover from sickness. So, it is always a good practice to avoid alcohol until you finish your antibiotics and start feeling better.

Mixing alcohol and Generic Bactrim is not entirely safe. Alcohol can interact with many types of medication, including antibiotics like Generic Bactrim. A general rule to follow is that if you are sick enough and need to take antibiotics, you should not be drinking alcohol. Though, alcohol is a common part of social lives. Attention to be given at the time of family function, date, or birthday party, where you may be interested in having one or more drinks while on an antibiotic.
