MS Dhoni Says He Didn’t See Spark in Youngsters to Replace the Experienced Players

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to impress with their performance in the IPL 2020 so far and are about to get out of the league after securing their seven-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Abu Dhabi. Rajasthan proved too strong in every department where CSK batsmen could only put up 125 runs for 5 after 20 overs. Although they have started well while defending, Jos Buttler’s impeccable knock took the game away from them.

However, after the game, Chennai faced a lot of criticism where many said that they are lacking youngsters in their playing XI despite their senior players failed constantly. Meanwhile, the captain MS Dhoni on Monday backed their decision to continue with the seniors as he said that they didn’t see the spark in the youngsters that can replace the senior players in the team.

“It’s fair enough, this season we weren’t really there,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation. “Also, there were a few chances to the youngsters. Maybe we didn’t see the kind of spark they could have given us to say ok, push the experienced guy and make some space for them.”

On the other hand, the two youngsters Ruturaj Gaikwad and N Jagadeesan got the chance to play this season where Gaikwad failed to impress with the scores of 0 and 5, the 0 while batting at No. 4. But, Jagadeesan was quite impressive in one match which he played and scored 33 off 28 against RCB but he was dropped after the game as well.

Meanwhile, Kedar Jadhav has scored 62 runs from 5 innings (8 matches) so far which came at a strike rate of 93.93 and Dhoni shared that youngsters will get more chances as well.

“We tried a few things. You don’t want to do too much chop and change because after 3-4-5 games you won’t be sure of anything. You want to give the guys a fair go, and then if they’re not performing, then you switch. Insecurity is something you don’t want to prevail in the dressing room. And that’s what is something we always back,” he concluded.
