Shreyas Iyer Reveals the Reason of their Defeat against Mumbai Indians

Delhi Capitals’ skipper Shreyas Iyer has revealed the reason for their defeat against the four-time title winner Mumbai Indians. He admitted that Mumbai Indians (MI) have outplayed them in every department in the game after their 5-wicket defeat to the Mumbai Indians at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Sunday. However, they chased down a total of 163 with two balls and five wickets in hand after restricting Delhi to 162/4.

“Overall, they outplayed us in all the departments. We need to work on our mindsets before the next game,” said Shreyas Iyer after the game.

“Definitely, I would say 10-15 short, 170-175 on the board would have looked completely different. We really missed out when (Marcus) Stoinis got out, he was hitting the ball really well and also seeing the ball like a football, that was the main error that we did and something that we really need to work on. Apart from that the effort we put on the field, we could definitely work on that as there were a few misfields and dropped catches as well,” he further shared.

However, Delhi Capitals made a few changes in their playing XI during the game. Ajinkya Rahane and Alex Carey added in the playing XI, replacing Shimron Hetmyer and Rishabh Pant. Meanwhile, a swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman like Rishabh Pant could turn the table for them in the final overs as well.

While his absence made things worse for Delhi Capitals, the captain Shreyas Iyer gave the hint that Rishabh Pant could be out for the week, which also puts a question mark about his playing for their next match against Rajasthan Royals.

“We have no idea (on Rishabh’s availability), the doctor said he has to rest for a week and hope he comes back really strong,” Shreyas Iyer further added.
