Soundproofing a room in some easy steps

Soundproof the door to your private room by adding a door sweep to keep sound from passing through the gap between the floor and the bottom edge of the door. A door sweep seal is just a metal strip equipped with a noise blocking flap which allows the door to open and close as usual.

However it will, for all its simplicity, provide your hollow core sound blocking qualities almost as efficient as those of a much heavier and costlier solid soundproof door.

You don’t have to bother either with having acoustic foam or a soundproof door blanket blown into the interior of your home walls, or with covering those walls with a new layer of cork backed drywall glued to make them soundproof. Soundproofing the walls of your private room can be as simple as buying a roll of enticingly colored, adhesive backed soundproof mat, which will attach to your walls like wallpaper without any trouble.

If you want to stay away from adhesives while soundproofing your walls, there is sound attenuator which will make excellent wall hanging. If you truly want to enhance the soundproofing in your private room, you may try these options.

Adding carpet to the floor of your private room will substantially lessen its noise levels, specifically if you use heavy carpet padding as an underlayment. You may coordinate your floor carpet with any wall carpeting you do, and if your room is in an upper level, having carpeting on the floor will do an incredible job of deadening any sound which rises from below.

If you want to re-carpet the room, hold off on carpeting the walls until you can co-ordinate your options, and as an additional soundproofing measure, use a deluxe carpet pad on the floor below the carpet. Sound waves travel everywhere, including along the floor, and soundproofing it will be a big assistance in creating the quietness you want.

If the room that you are soundproofing has windows, you will have to address them in your soundproofing plan. Installing soundproof windows will add to the expense of creating your haven, but if you don’t have them, all the steps you have taken to prevent noise from the rest of your house from entering the room will be wasted as external noise pollution enters the windows. So just install soundproof windows behind the actual ones, and bask the protection from exterior drafts and noise that you will get from their outstanding tight seals!
