Teeling Whiskey Distillery: A Tour of Dublin’s Oldest Whiskey Distillery

Dublin is a city with a long history, and there are few places that better showcase its past than the Teeling Whiskey Distillery. The city’s oldest working whiskey distillery has been operating since 1782, and it’s still going strong today. If you’re visiting Dublin or live there already, then this is one of the most fascinating aspects of the city’s history that you should check out. And even though I’m not much of a whiskey drinker myself (I prefer beer), this visit was still worth it because it gave me insight on Dublin’s past and present while also giving me some fun facts about Irish whiskey itself!

Dublin’s Most Famous Whiskey Distillery

The Teeling Distillery is located in the heart of Dublin, just a short walk from O’Connell Street. The distillery is open for tours Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm and Saturday from 10am-4pm. Tours are free but require an online reservation, which can be made here.

The tour lasts about 45 minutes and covers all aspects of whiskey production–from grain selection and fermentation to barrel aging, bottling, labeling and shipping (which takes place across town at their larger facility).

The most interesting thing about this distillery may be its history: It was founded by Jack Teeling in 2015 after he bought older equipment left behind by Bushmills when they moved production out of Ireland in 2014 due to tax issues related to Northern Ireland’s status within the UK post Brexit vote

A Brief History of Teeling Whiskey Distilleries

The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is one of Dublin’s oldest distilleries, having been in existence since 1782. It has a rich history of producing quality whiskey for over two centuries. It was shut down in the 1970s and remained dormant until it was revived in 2017 by Declan and Stephen Teeling, who are now its owners. They decided to reopen their family business because they wanted to make sure that their legacy lives on–and so far, it seems like they’re doing just fine!

The Oldest Whiskey Distillery in Ireland

The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is the oldest working whiskey distillery in Ireland. It was founded by Jack and Peter Teeling, two brothers from County Down who opened their first distillery in Dublin’s Liberties area in 2016–the first new spirit maker to open in Dublin since 1835.

Today, the family business is still owned by the same family (Jack’s sons operate it) but has expanded into other areas such as craft beer and gin production. The original distillery site now houses many different brands under its umbrella–including some of Ireland’s best-known whiskey brands like Locke’s Reserve or Greenore Single Malt Whisky–as well as newer ones like Cooley Distillery or Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey Company Ltd., which makes one of our favorites: Connemara Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey!

Why Visit the Teeling Whiskey Distillery?

If you’re a whiskey enthusiast, the Teeling Whiskey Distillery is a must-see. You can see how whiskey is made, taste some of the finest Irish whiskeys in Dublin and even buy your own bottle!

If you’re not quite so into whiskey but still want to learn more about it, there are plenty of other reasons why visiting this historic distillery should be on your list of things to do while in Ireland’s capital city:

  • The tour offers an insight into how whiskey was made over 200 years ago (and continues to be produced today).
  • It gives visitors an opportunity to sample several different types of Irish whiskey – including their own range which has been named as one of Ireland’s Best Drinks by Food & Wine Magazine.
  • As well as being able to purchase bottles from their shop or online shop after taking part in one of their tours (which cost between 15-20 euros depending on whether or not there are any special offers), guests will also have access through an open door policy where they could take home samples if desired too!
