The Difference between Sublimation Printers and Ink Jet Printers

Dye sublimation printer printing technology is a method of computer printing that uses heat to change dye into a solid or liquid form without going through an ink jet stage. The name is first given to the technology because the dye itself being considered to “make the change from the solid state to a gas state without going through an ink jet phase.”

The first type of sublimation printer to be used commercially was a dye-sublimator (also referred to as a dye jet printer or a laser printer). They were designed with a high temperature (around 500 F) to dry out the dye. The process was originally done by applying heat directly to the ink, but today’s printers use a special ink that cools the dye in its own liquid form.

The difference between sublimation and inkjet printers is that ink is used to apply the dye, while the heat used for drying out the liquid dye dries out the solid dye. This allows it to be re-inked over time, creating a continuous film.

Today, the process is not as important with inkjet printers because the ink will dry quickly and can be printed without any need for sublimation. A dye-sublimation printer is still used in many different types of offices and has gained popularity in commercial printing due to its ease of use and the low costs involved. It is most commonly found in offices that use many printing tasks, such as medical and architectural firms.

Most inkjet printers use heat to dry out the dye on a surface, and they are usually not sublimated. While the printing process for inkjet printers does not need sublimation, most inkjet printers still use ink-based dye to create the print on the paper.

Inks used in inkjet printers are typically water-based, and while they are more durable than other chemicals, they are still prone to problems.
