SINGAPORE — There were 347 local cases of Covid-19 confirmed on Wednesday (Sept 8), 84 of whom are seniors over the age of 60.

Including two imported cases, there were a total of 349 new infections, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement.

This is the highest number of daily cases since Aug 5 last year, when 908 were recorded.

MOH said that the two imported cases had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon their arrival here. One was detected on arrival and the other developed the illness during isolation.

There are 664 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised as of Wednesday, up from 643 the day before.

Data from MOH showed that the number of patients who are in serious condition and need oxygen support to help them breathe has dipped to 23, down from 24 the day before.

Of those who have fallen very ill, 23 are seniors aged above 60.

Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or had died is 6.1 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 0.7 per cent, MOH said.

MOH said that there are no new emerging large clusters, though it is monitoring nine that already exist.

These clusters “have already been ringfenced through tracing, testing and isolation”, it added.
