Things to know before buying a flagship smartphone

With brands like Apple, Samsung and OnePlus launching new, flagship models every year, here is what you need to know before purchasing a flagship smartphone.

There is no dearth of options when it comes to flagship smartphones. While there was a time when only Apple and Samsung dominated the premium smartphone segment, new players like OnePlus and Xiaomi have certainly forced the brands to raise the bar.

From foldable smartphones to models with 108MP primary cameras, premium smartphone brands continue to redefine our expectations, and reinvent their USPs, so as to claim the tag of the best premium smartphone brand in the world.

Regardless of the price tag, there will always be a huge demand for premium smartphones. Brands like Apple and Samsung have a legion of loyal fans that continue to buy the latest models, while brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Realme are slowly pushing out their own high-end models.

However, there are a few things you must remember, before purchasing a flagship smartphone.

You can buy EMI mobiles on e-commerce platforms using your credit card or debit card, or by using the Bajaj Finserv EMI Network Card.

Processors

When it comes to smartphones, processors play a pivotal role in how fast the smartphone processes the information and responds to your commands. Faster processors (with higher base clock speed) ensure that your smartphone responds instantly, while also handling heavy-duty tasks with ease.

Most of the smartphones today come with octa-core processors, while different brands use different chipsets.

For instance, Apple uses its own A-series Bionic chipsets in its iPhones, while Samsung uses Exynos processors. Other Android smartphones commonly use Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, MediaTek Helio SoC, or HiSilicon Kirin SoC, and the high-end smartphone models use the latest chipsets.

That is most of the premium smartphones that use Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC employ the Snapdragon 865+ chipset, with a few examples being Lenovo Legion Phone Duel, and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G.

Similarly, the flagship models that use MediaTek Helio SoC employ Dimensity 1000 and Density 1000 Plus SoC, with a few examples being OPPO Reno 3 5G, and Redmi 10X Series.

Thus, it is imperative that you choose a smartphone that comes with the latest chipset.

RAM Size

One could argue that the RAM size is just as important to a smartphone’s performance as its processor. Most of the premium smartphones today come with at least 8GB RAM, with some smartphone models even offering 16GB RAM.

These 8GB RAM mobile may also be base variants, but if you want your smartphone to deliver a smooth, uninterrupted performance, or if you want to play graphically-intensive games without any lags on your premium device, it is imperative that you choose a smartphone with at least 8GB RAM size.

Battery Capacity

Yet another important factor to take into consideration before buying a premium smartphone is its battery capacity. While Samsung provides flagship models with excellent battery capacities, Apple’s iPhones do not come with large battery capacity, but still, deliver long runtimes.

This is because Apple finds the optimal balance between the phone’s hardware and software, and this enables the smartphone to run for longer periods, even if it only comes with a 3,110mAh battery.

That said, it is important to check the smartphone’s video playback time and Talktime before purchasing the smartphone.

Wireless Charging

Some of the flagship phones today support wireless charging. This includes the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, Google Pixel 4/4XL, and Huawei P30 smartphone.

Wireless charging feature eliminates the need to carry our smartphone charger with us, or the necessity to search for the nearest plug-point once our phone gives us an indication that it is about to run out of charge.

Cameras

Last but not least, we always look at the cameras before buying our phones. Whether it is in the mid-range segment, mid-premium segment, or the premium segment, we want the best cameras while buying a smartphone. Similarly, we want the best possible camera configuration while purchasing a flagship model.

That said, more is not always better when it comes to smartphone cameras. For instance, Google Pixel 4 series phones might not come with a quad or Penta-camera setup but are arguably the best camera phones available today.

It is important to do proper research regarding cameras before purchasing a new flagship smartphone, instead of going with the camera specs provided by the brand.

Buying a flagship smartphone today is easier than ever, as we can now purchase them on No Cost EMIs.
