Uber Merges Ride-Hailing and Food-Delivery Apps

Uber will now be incorporating Uber Eats and its main ride-hailing app together. In the overhauled design, users will also see a number of more features, including the ones for safety. Also, Uber will also be providing bikes and scooters on rent in different locations. Here are some upcoming changes:

Home Screen

When you open the revamped Uber app, you will immediately notice the change. Now, rather than displaying your current location, the app will ask you if you wish to order food or get a ride. This way, you will not have to use a different app for ordering food. It is speculated that Uber may also roll out more services, such as grocery deliveries, in due time.

Safety

Uber is adding a new verification system that will require a PIN. This way, riders will not get in the wrong Uber cab. In case the user opts for the feature, they will have to tell the PIN to the driver before starting the ride. The company is also working on a brand-new tech that makes use of ultrasound waves for automatically verifying that the rider is in the correct car. This will not require any PIN. The ride’s device shall send a signal to the driver’s device for automatic verification.

With the help of on-trip reporting, users will be able to make the report of safety incidents such as bad behavior, long delay, taking other routes, etc., while the ride is going on. Earlier, users could only make reports when the trip would get over.

Food

Apart from merging the food-delivery app, Uber is also expanding food delivery. It will be releasing a rewards program which will benefit the users who order food quite often from Uber Eats. This will allow the users to earn points which can be redeemed on their next order.

Ultrasonic Technology

Uber is rolling out updates for its Real-Time Identity Check feature that was launched three years ago. It required the drivers to click their selfie for verification. After the update, they will have to look right and left, smile, etc. to verify themselves.

Drivers

After the update, the drivers will be able to see estimated earnings so that tracking of money is easier. According to the company, it wishes to offer drivers more details so that it can be easier for them to understand how much they can earn.

The revamped Uber app will be rolling out at the beginning of October. Now, the app will also get launched in Brazil and Mexico.
