Under What Circumstances Will RFID Tags Fail?

With the continuous development of RFID technology in China, RFID electronic tags have become increasingly common in our life. RFID technology is similar to bar code scanning. It also saves the data on the carrier in some way and reads the internal data through a special reading device.

Bar code is printed on the surface of the object by printing the data. Although the cost is low and convenient, the data is easy to be lost and is not suitable for the harsh environment. RFID tag technology uses a special RFID reader and an RFID electronic tag that can be attached to the target. The information is transmitted from the RFID electronic tag to the RFID reader by using the frequency signal.

The industrial production environment is complex and the reading and writing frequency is high. How to ensure the normal reading and writing of tags without problems under the use of RFID for a long time and high frequency? If the RFID tag fails, it will not be able to scan and apply. Under what circumstances does the RFID electronic anti-counterfeiting tag fail?

1. Label damage

Generally, the label is wrapped with PPS, PVC, resin, ceramics and other industrial materials as the shell, but it is possible to damage the label in extreme cases. For example, the chip is damaged or the coil is broken due to external pressure exceeding the bearing force of the label. High static electricity or high-voltage electricity will also cause irreparable damage to the label.

The protection grade of the label produced by our company reaches IP68. It also has the ability of waterproof, high temperature, chemical corrosion, acid-base and oil resistance. It can be applied to most industrial environments and can be used normally. Therefore, when installing the label, as long as it avoids external force extrusion and power accessories on the stress surface and prevents high voltage and high static electricity, the label can be used normally.

2. The label is not damaged

RFID technology transmits the energy of the tag through the magnetic field generated by the card reader. After the tag obtains the energy from the magnetic field of the card reader, the data will be returned to the card reader, and the electromagnetic wave cannot completely penetrate the metal. Therefore, when there is a metal barrier, the tag will fail, and the water can absorb the electromagnetic wave. Although the tag is waterproof, if the tag works in the liquid, it will also lead to unreadability.

RFID transmits energy and information through magnetic field. In strong magnetic field accessories such as motor and power supply, the magnetic field of card reader will be disturbed, resulting in failure to read tag data. The sensing area of the card reader has a distance limit. The tag must enter the sensing area to read and write data normally. The distance of the sensing area depends on the type of equipment and the on-site environment.

To sum up, RFID technology can penetrate paper, wood, plastic and other non-metallic materials, read data and conduct penetrating communication. It is difficult to work normally when there is metal barrier, wrapped by water or strong magnetic field, and there is probably failure.

3. Label type

Tags can be divided into different types according to their own material and chip integration protocol. In addition to physical characteristics, the working protocol of the tag determines whether the tag can communicate with the card reader.

For example, a card reader using MODBUS data type cannot correctly decode the tag using free protocol, and can only read a mess of random code. Therefore, when developing RFID, our company develops the tag of the corresponding model for each type of card reader. Only the supporting card reader and tag can decode the data normally and complete the data exchange.
