Web Design Versus Web Development – What is the Difference?

Many technology pundits argue that web development and web designing are interchangeable. Although the terms were interchangeable in the past, I disagree with them and argue that they are now two distinct terms, each with their own goals, standards and philosophies. Web development is simply a term that refers to any activity involved in developing a website for the World Wide Web, or intranet.

This can include e-commerce business development, web design, web content development, client-side/server-side scripting, and web server configuration”; whereas a definition of web design can be summed up as “a process of conceptualization, planning, modeling, and execution of electronic media content delivery via Internet in the form of technologies” (definitions courtesy of Wikipedia). These simplified definitions can help us to notice a few things. Web design is part of web development. It is easy to see how many people think they are linked, much like the idea that a square and rectangle are connected. But a rectangle is not a circle. Web design is an important part of web development but it is not the only part.

Website design, or web design in general, is the creative visualization and use of tools and applications that are created during web development. Web design goes one step further in the Shark Byte development process and uses these tools to create ideas and applications that are completely different from what they were designed for. An example would be the way that the plane engine designed for war combat was used to create the car engine that we use every day.

Web design has given rise to things such as the web 2.0 concept, which is user-generated content. This is something web development tools can do but are not designed for. The content management systems, such as those mentioned earlier, provide the foundation for blogs and social networking sites. Web development tools provide the framework for dynamic web pages that appeal to our aesthetic eye. However, you can take this one step further and use the tool to create a masterpiece in web design.

It was easy to disentangle the terms due to their common relationship. The process now involves developing technologies and applications that will help the World Wide Web advance. These technologies can be used for any internet-related purpose (such as websites), but they are not limited to that. One of the many positive developments in web development is content management systems (CMS). CMS systems can manage content and data online.

They can also be used to network offices or act as an backbone for ecommerce websites. Voting systems across the country use CMS systems to count votes and record them. Web development includes the creation, modification and innovation of scripting languages and coding languages. Actionscript 3.0, PHP 5.2 are two of the greatest web achievements. Actionscript 3.0 is part Adobe Flash CS3 but Adobe created AS 3.0 in order to make it easier for web developers to create creative applications. web design in NY is known for using the most current tools and research to create innovative web applications.
