What does RYT 200 mean? What about a 50-hour or 100-hour yoga teacher training program?
Which yoga teacher training should you start with?
It is essential to complete a 200-hour yoga teacher training initially. This is the foundation for becoming a yoga instructor. You may register as an RYT200 (basic/junior yoga teacher) after completing this course in Yoga Teacher Training information.
Yoga Alliance will not recognize your certificate if you completed 50 or 100 hours of yoga teacher training without completing a 200-hour course. This is because these 50 or 100-hour pieces of training are designed to be followed by yoga instructors as a continual learning experience.
This is true regardless of whether a yoga school claims that their 50 or 100-hour program is certified by Yoga Alliance but fails to disclose that the diploma will only be accepted once you have completed foundational training.
The RYT 200 is the entry-level yoga teacher certification.
As a result, if you complete a 50 or 100-hour yoga teacher training, you will not be able to register with Yoga Alliance. It all begins with a 200-hour training program.
For the 200-hour program, Yoga Alliance has set criteria of 200 contact hours or 160 contact hours, plus an additional 40 hours of online / self-study. Only anatomy and physiology or yoga humanities may be included in these 40 hours.
The following should be included in every Yoga Alliance 200-hour yoga course:
75 hours of technique, instruction, and practice, 30 hours of anatomy and physiology, 30 hours of yoga humanities, and 50 hours of professional fundamentals, including teacher skills, self-teaching, and professional development
In addition, the yoga school has additional 15 hours to split into one of the four categories stated.
Following graduation: Continuous Education or RYT300
You must complete at least 30 hours of extra training every three years. That, in my opinion, is insufficient; in the context of lifelong learning, I believe it should be much more. In yoga, I usually attend a lot of training and refresher classes. In any case, a 50-hour yin yoga course, a 100-hour mantra chanting practice, a 50-hour yoga Nidra course, or a 30-hour anatomy course may be used to fill these hours. Of course, you have the option of continuing your education, and there are numerous options available.
Advanced yoga teacher training (RYT 300)
Following the 200-hour yoga program, there is a 300-hour follow-up training. When a 500-hour course is given, it implies that the basic and advanced training will be followed one after the other. If it’s divided, you may choose for only the basic training or acquire some experience after the basic training before moving on to the advanced training.
If you have completed a Yoga Alliance-recognized basic training, you are eligible to enroll in any 300-hour advanced program. Of course, there are specific additional prerequisites to pursue another yoga school’s advanced curriculum effectively.
For a 300-hour course, new standards are presently being developed.
RYT 500: 200 + 300 RYT 500: 200 + 300 RYT 500: 200 +
You may register as an RYT 500 after completing the advanced training. In terms of hours, a 200-hour and 300-hour course may be combined. However, this only applies to 200 and 300-hour courses that have been entirely completed. You can’t, for example, complete 100 hours of one class and then another 100 hours of a different approach and claim 200 hours.
