What You Should Know About Mad Max’s Prequel Movie?

Director of the film George Miller has confirmed that the film is under development. Here’s what you should know about it.

The 2015 film’s prequel will largely focus on the Imperator character (played by Charlize Theron) and will relay her origin. The 2015 film titled Mad Max: Fury Road did not touch upon Charlize Theron’s character’s origins.

The audience found it quite strange that nothing was shown on Imperator’s back story even though George Miller and Nick Lathouris had penned down backstories for every character.

In the film, we saw Imperator Furiosa working for Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). Being fed up after being treated like a slave, she cuts all her ties with him and goes away to join Tom Hardy’s Max Rockatansky.

Although the titular character Max will be featured in the prequel, the spotlight will be on Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa as she has been signed in as the de facto protagonist of the film. What we need to remind ourselves is that film development is still in the premature stage. However, it has been confirmed that George Miller will return once again to helm the project (all four Mad Max films are directed by him), and he will be working alongside Doug Mitchell, who will be his scripting and producing partner.

Miller has also assembled his credible creative team to prepare himself for another Mad Max journey. His production team includes Colin Gibson as production designer, Margaret Sixel as an editor, Ben Osmo as a sound mixer, and Lesley Vanderwalt as a makeup artist.

The Mad Max franchise has met with a lot of trouble behind the scenes because of a court battle between George Miller and Warner Bros. However, the work for the prequel and the sequel had already begun during Mad Max: Fury Road development. Along with writing the script for the fourth film, George Miller and Nick Lathouris were also sketching out every character they were going to introduce in the subsequent films.

The acrimony between George Miller and Warner Bros. had been because of the payment issues.

Though the project Mad Max: Furiosa has been given deadlines, George Miller has stated recently that the work for the prequel will begin as soon as he is done with the “Three Thousand Years of Longing” with which he is currently busy.

There is also a matter of pandemic restriction, which might delay the commencement of the project even further. George Miller will be happy if he succeeds in starting the project in mid-2021.

There is one bad news though Charlize Theron will not be returning for the prequel and “Split,” “Emma,” and “Glass” star Anya Taylor Johnson will be stepping in as the young Imperator Furiosa. New names that have been reported to be in the project are Thor and Avengers star Chris Hemsworth and Watchmen actor Yahya Abdul Mateen II. The roles which will be played by both of them have not been disclosed yet.

The prequel film is expected to relay Imperator’s childhood story and will specifically focus on her childhood life and especially her time at the “Great Place.” The film will also shed some light on Warrior Women with whom she had a very strong relationship. Furiosa was abducted from the “Great Place” as a child, and in the 2015 film, she revealed that she still has a desire to return home one day.

The Mad Max franchise has been considered to be George Miller’s best work, and the second and fourth film in the franchise has been regarded as the best film in the history of the cinema. Tom Hardy’s addition has also helped the franchise in boosting its acting virtuosity.
