Best Things You Need To Know When Selecting A Load Cell

A load cell is a force transducer that converts a force into an electrical signal. The force may be tension, pressure, torque, and compression. The electrical signal changes according to the force applied to a cell. In other words, load cells are convenient to measure the force applied to various applications. These are favorable in many applications like food, beverages, automation, industrial machines, and much more. So, it is crucial to choose the best load cell to work accordingly and sustain for a long time. There are so many load cell manufacturers in India who can help you to select the best load cells.

The selection of the best cell is sometimes critical and often has its functionalities. Here’s the load cell selection guide to choose the most suitable cell for your requirement.

  • Application specific

Every application has its unique requirements and needs. One can choose a load cell according to the application where it is intended to be used. Specific load cells are available for most of the applications where the load cells give optimal performance as required for the application. Most common application includes Platform scales, Tanks & Hopper weighing, Filling & dosing systems, Check weigher & Belt conveyor scales Truck scales, etc. Load cell manufacturers in India will help you to select the best load cell.

  • Capacity

Every load cell is rated with a maximum capacity (also called nominal capacity), but consideration should also be given to any dynamic, impact or traverse loads that may put undue strain on the load cell during the operations.

Sudden shifts in weight may cause an overload, resulting in anything from signal loss and loss of linearity, through to complications with calibration or even mechanical damage which may make it difficult to achieve the pinpoint accuracy and minute measurements required.

The maximum capacity of the load cell should be at least 1.3 times the estimated gross weight of the system (depending upon wind speed, no of supports, seismic zone etc), so that the load cell can be protected in case any excess load during operation or from external factors. You can even oversize the load cell up to 2 times the gross weight of the system if there is possibility of sudden impact loads.

  • Desired Accuracy

Quite a few types of load cell are available within the same measuring range hence one must choose a load cell that meets the application as well the accuracy requirements of the measuring system.

Load cells are available from C1 to C3 accuracy class. Accuracy class C1 has 1000 divisions and the load cells with accuracy class C6 has 6000 divisions. More no. of divisions means more accurate, hence a C6 class load cell is more accurate than C1 class load cells.
